An EXP Soundboard alternative that keeps your board

EXP Soundboard does the basics, but it needs Java and a virtual cable. Onion Board is a free Windows app with nothing extra to install, plays your sounds straight through the mic you already use, and brings your EXP board over in one click.

Bring your EXP Soundboard board over in one click

When you install Onion Board and EXP Soundboard is on your PC, it offers to bring your sounds over, with their names, categories and hotkeys. Your EXP Soundboard setup keeps its own copy, so you can try Onion Board without losing anything. Already installed? Backup → Import from another soundboard does the same any time.

Switching over

  1. Download OnionBoardSetup.exe and run it. Leave the EXP Soundboard box ticked when it offers to import.
  2. The short guide asks for your mic and headphones. Click Put my sounds straight into my mic and Yes when Windows asks. No virtual cable needed.
  3. In Discord (User Settings → Voice & Video), keep your normal mic. Set Input Profile to Custom, Noise Suppression to None and turn Echo Cancellation off, so Discord doesn't filter your sounds out. Onion Board reads these settings and tells you if one is in the way.
  4. Drag sound files onto the window, right-click a pad to give it a hotkey, and play.
Onion Board isn't affiliated with EXP Soundboard. The name is used here only to describe what Onion Board is an alternative to and what it can import from.
